water iris
We’ve been away for a few days again recently, this time in the Victoria area visiting middle daughter’s family. I have some interesting things to share but am quite busy with much work in home and garden. However I just had to scan and visually preserve this stalk of beautiful going-to-seed water iris picked from their lake front.
Our weather continues to be glorious with very warm days and cool nights.

Marja-Leena!
We have here nearby a park that had a lot of water flowers of all kinds. I should go and see if there’s any developments like that. It should be Fall, but we continue to have warm weather and cool, foggy, even frosty nights. Just like you have.
So there I should be seeing a kinda pond that I usually could not see. Seasons are changing their appearance, compared to last year anyway.
Ripsa, this little lake also has numerous lily pads with flowers still in bloom….a lovely serene spot. How nice that you are still having warm weather. It’s been too hot some afternoons for the gardening work we’re doing but the cool nights are a relief, though it’s nowhere close to frost yet. Hope you find that pond!
It’s a surprise to me that water iris have seeds when I always assumed they grew from bulbs. Learning something new is always a good thing and so is seeing this strange and lovely scan.
I’m delighted to hear you had a nice visit with your daughter in Victoria.
Susan, thanks for the kind words! I am not knowledgeable about the many kinds of irises types, just the ordinary garden ones which have rhizomes. Unfamiliar with water iris, I now had a quick look online which seems to say they also have rhizomes… and seeds. Maybe they all have seeds if we don’t deadhead them for tidiness?
