Victoria Day flowers
A peek at the back rhododendron garden on this Victoria Day long weekend. The bees are buzzing about drunkenly, not letting me get too close. Busy days continue. Tomorrow a cousin from Finland comes to visit!

Marja-Leena: I think there is something particularly lovely about rhododendrons and azaleas, a delicate blowsiness that is quite enchanting. The pity is they have so little perfume and don’t flower for long enough.
The rhodies are just past their best here in Seattle but still beautiful. Those are wonderful photos that show the colors and shapes of the flowers to perfection.
They’re magnificent. Azaleas are in bloom here now and the rhododendrons will likely flower next month. I’m still waiting for the lilacs though.
I hope you enjoy your visit as well as getting the opportunity to speak Finnish again.
Tom, most of the ones I have do last a reasonably long time, a bit dependant on the weather. I also have a variety of early, mid-season and late so there’s something in bloom over a long period. These ones in the photo are very old and very tall. As for scent, that does seem rare but I have a decidious type azalea that smells dreadful, like cat pee.
Hattie, glad you like the photos. Seattle’s are probably a little earlier than here, but as I said previously there are varieties that are early, mid-season or late season.
Susan, good to hear that azaleas and rhods grow there. Lilacs were always much later on the prairies too while our lilacs here just finished last week.
We had a wonderful visit with my cousin and his friend! The day was full of much talk, sight-seeing and eating. So great to catch up as we had not seen him in eleven years. We spoke a little Finnish but mostly English (theirs was excellent) because of my husband and daughter. They love Vancouver. Tomorrow they are off to do more sightseeing beyond, eventually heading south over the border.
