Please see the bowl breaks (1) for the update should you have missed it.

They have the look of strange, snowy landscapes if I let my perception shift just a little. Of course, I’ve always enjoyed my short-sighted, peripheral visions.
Yes, I had the same thought as Susan – love the way these close-ups evoke a monumental, snowy landscape.
Susan and Jean, isn’t it interesting how an extreme closeup view of something can change what we think we see? The abstraction of a tiny portion of the image of a broken bowl’s edge has resulted in us thinking we see something monumental. This is exciting.
Yes, snow, or icing sugar, or else torn paper. It’s beautiful but slightly sets my teeth on edge.
I immediately recognised the Mason Cash design in the last post. I love those bowls, my mum had a huge one with a stone-coloured outside and a deep coblat blue inside, as a child I used to put my face right inside it to submerge myself in blue. I’ve never found one like it since, the ones I have just have white linings, but I have a miniature set with coloured insides, blue green and yellow.
This has got me thinking about fragments…
Lucy, yes, these could be any of those things. The sharp rough edge bothers your teeth? 🙂
The other day I was walking past housewares in a department store and there was a display of many different coloured mixing bowls that at first glance seemed to be Mason Cash, but they were much lighter and did not have the special straight edge at the base. They were made in Portugal.
I hope you also thought of my Fragments series of prints 🙂
