rainforest walk
As hinted in the previous post, I came across several forgetten envelopes of miscellaneous photos from many years ago. I don’t remember if these were originally of a yellow cast or if time’s hand had changed them that way so I thought I’d have fun and make them into sepia images. I quite like the result – the atmosphere of mystery, of wondering what is around the corner of that path and beyond those moss covered trees.
These, I remember well, were taken in Pacific Rim National Park, on the wild west coast of Vancouver Island. If the date is correct on the envelope it was in May 1999. This walkway was located near the Wickaninnish Centre and led down to Long Beach. On subsequent visits over the years, that boardwalk slowly disintegrated and disappeared into the earth.
Seeing these photos has brought back many wonderful memories and a desire for another visit to this very beloved place.

I especially like the top pic with its seeming contradiction of an inviting path yet with all those branches apparently making the way difficult. It is a lovely exercise to look through forgotten hoards of stuff which then leads to visits anew.
Olga, That is my favourite image too. Indeed, if I were to go through our many boxes of photos that have not been put into albums in the past couple of decades, I’d be lost to the world for days and weeks! And we have our parents’ photos too, sigh.
I really like that first image too. It’s sad the beautifully built wooden walkway wasn’t kept up over the years.
I remember a number of hand made trails to the beaches on that west-most shore – places with stairs interleaved by tree roots and sturdy handrails made from knotted ropes on the steeper sections.
Susan, yes it is sad. And I know the many steep wood stairs you describe. It’s been a while since we’ve been on those, and I don’t think I could get down those anymore with my bad knees.
