mystery stone
a curious small stone with what seems to be thin layer of glazed tile on top
with mysterious star-like crackling, like a petroglyph
odd layering beneath with another glazed bit and white stone on the bottom
man-made? nature-made? both?

I think it must be ceramic in some form, but would need to handle it to have make a closer guess. And intriguing object. I still envy you that amazing scanner of yours!
Lucy, ceramic yes, but it’s odd that there is that little glazed section below. How is that possible? Did this get tossed by the violent actions of earth and ocean to be re-formed into layers in this way?
I found this in one of my planters, probably picked up and forgotten by daughter or granddaughters.
Anyway, even if there are no answers, I like the mystery. And love my scanner!
A beautiful little piece of sculpture.
Olga, it really is a tiny little sculpture, only about 5 cm. wide. I’m glad I scanned it to view it larger.
It’s certainly mysterious. At 5cm it’s a bit big for a piece of jewellry but it’s definitely pretty enough.
Susan, that is a great idea, though it’s a bit large and thick, unless it was ground down. I know you make jewelry…
I’m not sure that bead weaving counts :0)
and drilling a hole through that with a
hand awl might take more time
than I can manage..
It reminds me of some little day of the dead skull beads made from bone I came across a while ago. It’s lovely anyway. Most lovely though is that I seem to have been magically allowed back onto your blog by my computer!!!! I have just been looking back through the old entries. Wonderful!!
Jodi! I am so happy you are finally able to access my blog (whatever was that about?). Interesting that you were reminded of the day of the dead skull beads – that image will now be etched on my mind every time I look at my stone!
That’s just the sort of object I would expect a child to deposit in your flowerpot!
Marly, I think you are right!
I like that comment, marly. And I like the rock, Marja-Leena. It’s as odd as Cyclops.
You and my daughter are both so observant of small things. It’s broadening for me to step into either pair of shoes.
Peter, thanks for the very kind observations! Your daughter is already a fine young artist!
