more hellebore
While out and about yesterday, a day that was not under another wave of the Pineapple Express for a change, but bright though cloudy, I spotted some plantings of little hellebore with perky heads, unlike those in my garden with their hanging ones, the kinds you have to lift up to look at their faces.
I even found a fallen or picked blossom, somewhat bruised though it is, to take home and scan. Which do you like better?
I think my favourite scan may still be this one and I do love these macro photos.

You’re right the one from 2009 is very special. Still, it’s lovely to see these growing alongside just a smattering of snow.
Susan, are you seeing them in Halifax, amidst the snow? No snow here since that little bit at the end of November. Even the snow on the mountains has been washed away by heavy rains and warm temperatures.
You’ve given me the first big smile of the day. On top of snow, ice, more snow, never mind poorly cleared streets and sidewalks, we’re now experiencing another blizzard. We don’t usually see any spring flowers here until April (at least), but right now I’d be happy to see pavement. Your pictures remind me it is springtime somewhere.
Oh dear, such a contrast between east and west in this big country. Your description sends me back to my youth in Winnipeg, often one of the coldest cities in Canada. Sending wishes for spring’s early arrival!
I love the colors and shapes in the linked one, but of these two, it is the second that says “Marja-Leena” to me–your love for the worn and the forgotten, the fragile and still-evocative past.
Marly, you do read so much into my images that I’m not always conscious of. This fallen flower was just what I needed for a scan and it wasn’t quite so battered looking when I picked it up, but of course a high-resolution scan would reveal the bruises. I could have photo-shopped them out….
