Grad exhibition
The entire Studio Art building at Capilano College is undergoing a major transformation this week into a gallery showcasing the works of this year’s graduates of the Studio Art program. The show opening is on Thursday, April 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. Thereafter, the show will run Monday to Friday until May 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are in the area, do come out and see these works in a wide variety of media by another strong group of emerging artists, many of whom go on to further studies at other art schools around the country. Congratulations to the grads who have been working incredibly hard!
Capilano College is at 2055 Purcell Way in North Vancouver.

We just had our juried student art show and it was excellent. A friend of mine won an honorable mention. I think in Canada your programs in art are set up a little differently than ours. I work with a photographer/printmaker from Canada and he tried to explain it to me once, but it sounded like there was a certain track that you take and that you don’t need to take a lot of other classes like math or chemistry.
Anyway, seeing that website made me nostalgic for “art school”.
There may be some provinces or even areas within provinces that have an arts stream school but I don’t know them myself. For college and university entrance, math, sciences, English and French are required. Entering the science fields, there are more sciences like physics required. I don’t think it’s too different from US universities?
That sounds the same as here, I’m not sure what he was talking about then.
🙁
As I mentioned, I think there are some arts high schools in some districts, but I don’t know if those students have the eligibility to enter post-secondary insititutions if they don’t get the minimum academic requirements. I’m rather uninformed on this 🙂
