Fragments II speaks more to me: I find it has more dynamic movement between the elements – asks more questions. But then I always seem to be more attracted to odd numbers of elements.
I’m pleased that my comments on your use of the title Fragments struck a chord with you. Of course you are welcome to quote it, borrow it, cannibalise it, ….
I commented on the previous post and it didn’t appear – problem with my Internet connection, I think, not yours.
I really love these. They are very different, and seem to combine some of the ongoing motifs and themes of your print works with the starkness of your scans. The plain background is like medieval paintings, as is the gold/metallic pigment. But the overlapping levels could not be more different, of course, from the flatness of medieval paintings.
Olga, I’ve had similar reactions from my colleagues at the studio, that this is the most successful of the three Fragments (one to still show here soon). Though it’s very similar in elements to the first one, the wider spacing of the vertical elements seems to create a more dynamic tension in this piece. And thanks again for that excellent comment on Fragments I, and for giving me the liberty to use it in future!
Jean, I love your observations especially the reference to medieval paintings! As you know, I’ve been scanning objects for a long time now and it was bound to happen that some of it would infiltrate into my printworks. Yes, the black background of the scanning process is a new and different element in my prints and I’m thrilled to find how richly that black printed.
And I’m sorry you had problems commenting earlier – I checked the spam box in case it got lost in there but no sign of it.
Marja-Leena, I like both so far. This one has a bit more fire in it. Sparks that jump out of the black.
R, you do have a good eye – sparks and fire – I like that, thank you!
I love how you are incorporating the petroglyphs! I remember your exploration of rock art and veils. Enjoying the evolution of your work!
Jackie, I’m glad you like these. Wonderful to have you visit, have missed you!
