flowers for mothers
Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers and caregivers!
Happy Birthday tomorrow to our youngest daughter who was born one Mother’s Day
The lilacs and lily of the valley are in bloom on this summery Sunday.

Hauskaa äitienpäivää! Ei ole meillä vielä kieloja! Nice to know what our national flowers are: Lily of the Valley sounds straight out Biblical! I remember when I was a kid that my grandmother had several calves that were named Kielo. BTW, I suspect that the name is Latin-based: Cialo means heaven and the smell is truly heavenly!
But most of the migratory birds have come already, for instance our black crows and Turkish doves. Nightingales have increased in number: instead of one poor singer, we now have three in the nearby sea bay.
My son called up his father (I can’t hear the phone) from San Francisco, where he seems to be on a work trip, so no video call today. Well, I guess it has to be work first…
Kiitos Ripsa! I didn’t know about cialo being the base for kielo. I’m very fond of this flower as well as lilacs for they were always in my mother’s garden. They are a little late this year but just perfect for this occasion.
Our youngest daughter came over for the day and we celebrated birthday and mother’s day with a cake and later, dinner, outside on the deck in warm sunshine. I had a long phone conversation with eldest daughter, and Facetime with the middle one and the grandgirls.
Thank you for the flowers and Happy Mother’s Day to you also, Marja-Leena and Happy Birthday to your youngest daughter. The women of the house may let their hair down. Enjoy this lovely day.
Ellena, thank you for visiting and for all the good wishes! It was indeed a lovely day.
Glad you had a lovely Mother’s Day. Those are my husband’s favorite flowers. They can be a bit bullish in the garden, despite that frail loveliness…
Marly, hope yours was good too. These are one of my husband’s faves too, similarily part of our youth in Winnipeg, in everyone’s gardens. And yes, they are invasive – I have to pull them out of adjacent lawn and flower beds.
Marja-Leena, what kind of leaf was it in your “Hand with Leaf”? No memory, though I’m sure you said. The 2012 one that’s in the side bar under “Hands.” (What a lot you would have if you collected them all!)
Marly, I’m touched that you have been visiting the archives! is it this one, with a magnolia leaf, or what is left of it? It’s also the first image in my gallery.
You’ve just reminded me that I should post another print I did of this image, in a smaller b&w version. I’ve been waiting for the update of my gallery to the wordpress platform.
Oh, a magnolia! Hmm. Interesting.
Happy Mothers’ Day, a little belated. Glad your weather is getting nicer.
Thanks, Hattie. It’s almost too hot today while working in the garden!
I hope it was a wonderful day for you, Marja-Leena.
The lilies-of-the-valley scanned beautifully.
Susan, it was a very nice one and I hope yours was too. I’m glad you think the scan worked well.
I love the fragrance of lily of the valley. It was my mom’s birth month and some years Mother’s Day fell on her birthday – the 12th. She would have been 95.
Dolores, I love the fragrance too, and with so many memories associated with it. How interesting about your mother’s birthday. Our youngest daughter was born on the 12th too which fell on Mother’s Day that year.
