on the feast of Stephen
photo: 4:30 pm Christmas Day 2014
Good King Wenceslas looked out on the feast of Stephen… I wrote at the start of a post on this feast day in 2008. Please visit that favourite page of mine for an interesting story about the Finnish source of this well-known song. Also check out the comment from Kate Laity!
Note all the snow we had that Christmas. It’s a green one this year. How is yours?
Have a great day! The two of us are having a quiet morning while some of the family are out visiting friends and one is out at a Boxing Day sale.

It’s warm and beautiful here, with a dusting of snow on the high mountains.
You get snow in Hawaii?! Christmas Day morning we noticed snow on our mountains too.
I dreamed we had snow, you just reminded me, but it is mildish and damp here now. We reluctantly went out on an invite yesterday but, like most people there, didn’t feel like much more than nibbling and then getting out in the fresh air, so we slipped away as early as possible and drove to the beach, with boots and waterproofs and the last of the dry bread that didn’t get made into stuffing, for the seagulls. It was chilly enough to make our ears ache a bit, and we were the only souls there except for one man and one dog, and a few seagulls who weren’t interested in the bread, but it was a lovely walk!
Sounds like a lovely walk indeed, Lucy! We’re back to rain over here. Our eldest daughter and husband left this morning, still have youngest here.
I’ve always loved the song, but with a brother like that I guess that would make him poor King Wenceslaus. In politics things haven’t changed very much.
While it rained here all day on Christmas, Boxing day and today were both mild and sunny. No snow up til now and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for the January thaw.
Ah, politics indeed. A green Christmas on the East coast too, which I’m sure you appreciate. The forecast here is for some snow flurries tonight then a few sunny days and freezing nights. The mountains are topped with snow. A nice ending and beginning of the years!
Belated happy holidays, Marja-Leena! It’s been warmish here until yesterday when the temperatures plunged. All of us who are going out into the city for First Night will be treated to temps down to 18ºF (-7ºC). But no snow, and none predicted. Strange weather. Anyway, Happy New Year to you and yours!
Thanks, Leslee! We’re also getting frosty temperatures this week, I think it went to
-4C last night, but it is bright and sunny. No snow except on the mountains. A white Christmas is a rare thing here.
Stay warm while out celebrating the coming of the New Year and may it be a happy one!
