at dusk
On November 1st at 4:35 to 4:36 pm looking south, southwest from our rear deck.
A bright new view since the removal of many tall trees next door,
but for this one magestic maple looking like a silhouette paper cut.

Are they low clouds, or can you see mountains from your home?
Olga, those are indeed low clouds but they sure do look like snow topped mountains, don’t they? Our mountain views are to the east and north.
I’m still feeling kind of disgusted about all those old trees having been removed, but this is a lovely skyline series of pictures. Thank heavens they left that lovely maple.. or does it belong to someone else?
Susan, I am saddened by the loss too. They could have left at least a few of them as they were mostly on the edges of the property, not in the way of building a new house. This maple is the only one that was left there, and I’m thankful for that. I’m also glad that we have some trees and a hedge along our side of that property.
A lot of people appear to have tree-fear! I’m glad you have a beauty left in that direction. It’s too bad the others are no more. My mother is really in the mountain forest and recently had to have some cutting for trees hanging directly over house and the hairpin road… It was interesting to see the man in charge bounding up the trees like a squirrel, free climbing and quite at home in the branches.
Marly, in all fairness, I think some of this anti-tree attitude has more to do with the loss of sunlight for trees in this rainforest quickly grow gigantic. We all wish to enjoy the ocean and mountain views here as well. So a forest on one lot is too much but a few trees nicely spaced instead are lovely.
Those tree trimming guys are indeed truly amazing and they do an important job in keeping our power lines safe when the storms hit. In fact, one winter one of said former neighbour’s trees split apart and did just that. We were out of power for a couple of days. Our huge cedar on the frontage looks lopsided because the long branches that threaten the power lines get trimmed back every few years by the crews hired by our Hydro company. They use these amazing trucks with a moveable bucket so no tree climbing needed!
