white and bright

It’s almost midnight on winter solstice day and it’s been snowing almost steadily for 24 hours and it is still coming down. What an incredibly beautiful winter wonderland it is out there. The night is bright with a pinkish glow to the sky, an other worldly effect from the reflection of city and Christmas lights up into the snow packed cloud cover. It is quiet… stille nacht.

The enchanting stillness on such a night is anything but empty. Beautiful picture!
A different sort of Christmas tree. How lovely!
Rouchswalwe, thanks, and it’s just glorious this morning too!
Joe, this is a Japanese maple next to our front steps, part of a group of shrubs decorated with outdoor lights. All our evergreens are way too big to put lights on.
Excellent photos!
Just loving your winter photos – our summer is proving to be a fairly wet one, which I’m not complaining about, and just mild rather than hot – so far! Looks like your winter is a wet one too – but falling as snow! Hope you have a lovley Christmas.
Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht… One of those songs that belies the Anglo knee-jerk reaction that German isn’t for singing. As if Schubert had never lived. I look at your photos and imagine trying to take them with my own came-with-a-pack-of-cornflakes camera. No shudder control. Stay warm. At least we’re all over the winter solstice hump.
Cathy, thank you.
Linden, interesting comparing our seasons, glad you are having some much-needed rain. Happy Christmas to you too.
Barrett. I didn’t know about that Anglo knee-jerk reaction! Much of the world’s greatest music came from Germany. Must be that ancient rivalry still. “Shudder control” – too funny! We must endure the darkest time, but the brightness of the snow is a wonderful compensation. Not sure husband agrees after spending hours shoveling it.
Rauhallista joulua!
Gorgeous ‘christmas tree’.
Happy Christmas to you ml.
Tuima, kiitos! Onko Suomessas vihdoinkin lunta jouluksi?
herhimnbryn, thanks, and the same to you!
