twine(d)
More treasures from the bottom of my ‘textures for collagraphs’ bag…
Coarser and stiffer than jute, is it sisal?
Fascinating how these recent scans of twine have brought forth many comments and questions about the fibres, and sent me on a learning journey. Meanwhile, my head and body feel a bit entwined by some kind of mild flu bug, so have been a little quiet lately.

Have you read about the Spontaneous Knotting of an Agitated String?

The colours are very gentle on the eyes. I really wish natural fibres were in wider use.
I hope you feel better soon.
Zhoen, on reading that rather humourous title, I immediately thought of a tangled fishing line, not a scientific study, heh. Thanks for this!
Susan, natural is indeed nice and we need more of it. And thanks, I do hope I’ll be back to normal quickly for I’m eager to get back to the studio.
More twine please. Meanwhile I hope that you feel better soon.
I love the fibers.
Take it easy and get better soon.
Joe and Anne, thanks, still feeling achey and woolly headed so I am being lazy…
We once bought Molly a short length of hemp rope to play with and chew on when she was a puppy – on the recommendation of a doggy book I think. It smelled delightful, and she must have thought so too because she ate most of it and was thoroughly sick afterwards!
Get well soon.
I’ve been looking around for a natural fiber to attach some feathers to a hanging basket I have. It needs to be very fine and strong.
Marja-Leena: The bug you have is going around here, too. I have remained functional but with not much energy. Some people are floored by it. Get better soon!
Lucy, sounds like that hemp was just too good for young Molly but it’s a great story. Thanks, feeling a little better already.
Hattie, have you checked any craft or sewing shops in your area, if you have them? Maybe they have some finer jute or other natural string? A fine macrame sounds like it might look good with feathers.
Sounds like a similar bug as I’m tired but not ‘floored’ though getting better, I think. You get better soon, too.
How beautiful such ordinary objects are when really seen with love and enthusiasm, as your eyes see them.
Good health and strength to you, Marja-Leena, to get to work and make more beautiful things.
Natalie, thanks so much for the kind words about my work and for my health! I plan to be back at the studio tomorrow, working on my latest print.
I hope you are back working Marja-Leena. I was at my printmaking class yesterday, and thoroughly enjoying myself as usual – despite my throat feeling as if all your sisal and jute is being pulled through it! It’s that time of year.
Olga, glad to hear you are enjoying the printmaking class despite the sore throat. I wimped out today after a rough night.
