textures, patterns, shadows
I found interesting textures and patterns on the pier,
Such perfect evening light for photography,
A serendipitous addition to my image files for possible future use in my printmaking!

Great pattern photos! Loved the photos of the pier in the last post, too. It’s fun when you hit the motherload of photo ops, isn’t it?
Well spotted! I like these, especially the first.
Cleats!
I like #2! Raised, perforated, scraped, embossed.
All about not slipping! These raspy surfaces certain ought to provide good visual traction. Since they’re on a warf, you might even say they had a “bight”.
Nice to see you can handle straight lines just as well as curvy ones. Tell me more about Vancouver
Leslee, thanks and yes, it’s great to find new images especially when not expected. Good that we had the camera with us!
Dave, thanks. I think that’s my favourite too.
Hi Bill! I didn’t think of ‘cleats’ with a ‘bight’, heh! And yes, it would be important to have a non-slip surface here. I like how they used so many different materials: wood, concrete, textured metals plus the original rails.
Barrett, thank the camera! As for telling you about Vancouver, that’s a tall order. I’ve written about it in numerous little ways in my four-plus years of blogging but I can’t think of a single article that says it all though you could search ‘Vancouver” here. Or read this on Wikipedia.
A lovely clean-lined group – inspirational.
Anna, thanks!!
Aren’t they great? I think I like the second best. What lovely light there was that day!
Wonderful abstractions from the concrete images.
I’m fascinated with the contrasting kinds of lines in the shadows, and the ‘leakage’ of rust over adjacent surface in the first photo – and the tiny rectangular nodules (can nodules be other than rounded?) on the wooden boards in the second photo. The last photo looks like chocolate! Great stuff – the photos I mean, I don’t really care much either way about chocolate!
Sorry – didn’t express myself well, not for the first time. Before we decided a couple of years ago there’d be no more long flights for us (on account of the distance between my patella and my backside) we were toying with visiting Vancouver. What I hoped is that you would throw in an occasional pic of the city to show us what we’ve missed. I assume it shares qualities I found so beguiling in Oregon and Washington (state).
Lucy, glad you like them.
Joe, I like what sounds like the perfect ‘art statement’!
Olga, you have noted the very things that appeal to me, but I didn’t think of chocolate on the last one! And I LOVE dark chocolate!
Barrett, there are similarities to the Oregon and Washington coasts and mountains and forests, but I think Vancouver as a city is very blessed in having the mountains right at its backdoor and the sea at its feet, and it’s green year around with majestic evergreens. They say here you can ski and sail on the same day many months of the year. We love it here and have lived here for 35 years now. Our only complaint is that it’s grown too much and has become too expensive for the young starting out in the housing market. Sorry you never made it here in your travelling days!
