special long weekend
Yesterday came the spring equinox
Last night the full Lenten moon, (did you keep me awake, Moon?)
Today son-in-law J’s birthday, a make-your-own-pizza party! and cake!
Sunday is Easter, so early this year
An egg hunt for the granddaughters and brunch for everyone
May your weekend be a happy one, however you spend it!
(P.S. These eggs were decorated by our daughter Erika. Check out the photos and links in my Easter 2006 post.)

Happy Easter and Spring all at the same time!!
Yay!
I see that egg with the north-south split is still eating away at its design. I never figured out why it was doing that. Sure is interesting!
Do you have a high res photo you can send me? T’would make a lovely desktop image… or a card!
Oh, what pretty eggs! I used to love to color Easter eggs. Haven’t been home for Easter for many years, alas. Did you decorate them?

Artistic Eggs – all in one basket
Party time for the children
Home-made pizza for J too – you’re ambitious
A leap into Spring – it’s finally sprung
Have a Happy and enjoy yourself too!
Joan, thanks, same to you and yours!
Erika, sure, I have several photos of the collection, not just these ones. Your creations over the years…
Leslee, thanks! Funny thing I’ve never really got into decorating them in a way that I would be proud of them. Daughter Erika is the one who made most of our collection. To see more, check out the link I just added.
R & C – thanks for the poem! No, I didn’t make the pizza, just chopped a few toppings. Elisa did most of the work. Yum they were good, and healthy too with spelt flour crust and many veggies and goat cheese!
I hear that it is the earliest Easter for 90 years or thereabouts. What prettily painted eggs!
Marja-leena: Beautiful eggs! I haven’t dyed eggs in many years…it was always something I enjoyed, even if there were no kids to participate! Happy Spring and Happy Easter! Speaking of spring – it sure doesn’t feel like it here in Kodiak. Not that it’s a surprise. We had several inches of wet snow yesterday, which is mostly melted away this morning. It won’t start feeling spring-like until the middle or end of May around here…
Joe, yes, that article I linked to said this year’s is ‘the earliest it’s been since 1913. It will not be this early again for another 220 years’. I never knew this before!
Hi Jackie! I can imagine you making lovely Easter eggs. And I’m not surprised spring is so much later up north, and that’s also the case in Winnipeg where I grew up. I imagine it’s a bit of a shock after living in Seattle for so many years.
Pretty eggs!
Happy Easter to you too ML!
Lovely clutch of eggs – they look beautiful enough to have been layed by a peacock. Happy Easter to you and yours.
Lucy, thanks! Hope you had a good one.
Anna, thanks. Now I’m wondering what peacock eggs look like!
Nice to see some Easter/spring colour! Just catching up now… We spent Easter renovating as usual, and the only eggs were the requisite Purdy’s.
Would like to point out that the centre egg with the daisy motif is one of mine, and so was the dyeing technique that caused the variations Erika mentioned: dipping the egg in dyes containing drops of vegetable oil causes resistance where the various dyes sink in or blend. After doing a few eggs, the oil smears more and you end up with colours that don’t dry or soak in completely, the same as if you painted acrylics on top of oils.
I found my Ukrainian kista (not sure of the spelling) the other day, from a grade 7 unit on Russia. You put beeswax in the tiny nozzle-like tip and melt over a candle, then draw onto the egg. What I don’t remember is how to get the wax off as you go? You used to batik, same idea – do you remember?
Maybe next year if we’re not gearing up for more renos, I’ll give it a try.
Hi Anita! Thanks for clarifying which egg was your work and technique! Sorry I’d forgotten. The other basket probably has more of the eggs you made. And I remember your little tool, like my tjanting tools for batiking but smaller. You and Erika really got into the decorating, each in a different way. I’d love to see you make some more next year, for your own home this time!
