gallery date night
Vancouver Art Gallery at Robson Square
It’s a lovely day and I’ve got a date! I’m picking up husband from work and we are going to visit several exhibitions late this afternoon and into the evening. We really love walking about in the vibrant downtown on a nice evening.
First we will see the Finnish Design exhibition at the Pendulum Gallery that I’ve already written about. I noticed that the gallery now has the media release with lots of photos on their site, so go have a look at that.
Then we are going to the Vancouver Art Gallery to take advantage of their Tuesday night’s pay-by-donation entry. As usual we are squeaking in near the end of two major shows by two very different BC artists – the Takao Tanabe retrospective, and the survey exhibition of hot artist Brian Jungen.
I will write more about Tanabe and Jungen after seeing the exhibitions.

Oh how I envy all the galleries and exhbitions you have available where you live. Hope you have a wonderful date!
Thanks Elise, we had a great time and we know we are lucky to live in a place that has some galleries, though not as many as Toronto or Montreal and the big US cities and especially EUROPE!!!
We actually saw four major exhibitions, the three I mentioned and a fourth one, also in the VAG on their 75 years of collecting. There is so much I could say that it will take a while to write about each into some coherent posts. I’ll try do it soon while it’s all fresh, as I squeak some time from other busyness!
Oh, how nice! I love spring – more light, better weather (at least here) and more opportunities (and more motivation) to get out and see some good art. Hope it was fun!
Great place to live for an artist like you. I saw Anna Amnell’s comment somewhere by Mari-Mekko post asking how come the Finns have so much creativity and guessing the answers to be the environment and natural talent. I agree with both. Thinking of Finnish language – how it is different from others, and how it has survived, I think we need to add to the Finnish character a need to be independent and original.
I agree Leslee, it’s much more pleasant going out on a spring night and without rain. We really enjoyed it, thanks!
Sikuri, I do believe you are right about Finns! You would have enjoyed the Finnish design exhibition and been very proud of the Finnish architecture – it has really become very high tech in the last decade!
